Anti-gun groups and politicians regularly exploit accidents involving children and guns. For example, anti-gun state Senator Adam Kline (D-37) and two other state Senators were primed and ready to propose new legislation (SB 6628)immediately following the incident in which a nine-year old boy recently brought a gun to a Bremerton elementary school. The gun accidentally discharged resulting in another student suffering serious gunshot wounds. Saul Alinsky was the Chicago radical that urged his fellow Socialists to exploit every crisis in order to advance the cause of total government control. (more…)

I served six months of my Ironworker apprenticeship working in an Ironworker maintenance crew on the Golden Gate Bridge.

In his recent State of the Union Address, President Obama raised an issue about which I have been passionate for almost 40 years. In his 1992 presidential campaign, President Bill Clinton was also talking a great deal about creating partnerships between private industries and public education.

The idea of training that prepares high school students to obtain apprenticeships in specialized tool making and other crafts really fires my imagination. Maybe it is because I dropped out of high school and then got back on track with an apprenticeship as an Ironworker with Local 377 in San Franciso. (more…)

Many law enforcement agencies choose to contract with the Washington State Patrol for radio communications. They have had coverage problems, according to my sources. The WSP previously built their system to cover the freeways, not the woods or other areas that are covered by State Park Rangers, local agencies and sheriff’s departments or the Washington Department of Fish and Game.

After 9/11 the Feds wanted to increase inter-operability–a nightmare. There were UHF, VHF, trunked systems and digital. Without a lot of hardware these systems can’t talk to each other. So the Feds created a standard, P25 digital, and some agencies purchased radios capable of the standard. The WSP could never quite seem to catch up and never went digital. Nevertheless, the WSP became very interested in becoming the radio communications provider for law enforcement. (more…)

Last spring, my wife and I finally got to visit our nation’s capital. I wasn’t sure how I expected to feel in D.C. because I have become so pessimistic about the direction our government is going.

I was full of profound thanksgiving for what our forefathers created, however, upon seeing the war memorials, the monuments and the classical grace and simplicity of the architecture.

It is not unusual for school children to travel to Washington, D.C. Various schools in Federal Way offer trips. Kids with families that can afford $2,000 can go and visit museums, the Capitol Building and even visit the White House in many cases. Sequoyah Middle School, for example, has such a trip planned for June 2012. There are some “Dream” scholarships available, but right now, all the kids that are signed up at Sequoyah are white. Social networking media such as Twitter are being used for all kinds of things. The recent phenomenon of flash mobs is now being utilized to organize protests, robbing and looting in neighborhoods and to foment chaos. Activists in the San Francisco Bay Area spent much of the summer organizing flash mob protests at BART Tunnels.

The activists claim that these are First Amendment activities designed to protest an officer involved shooting but the strategy seemed to be to disrupt BART operations during rush hours. The next phase in the leftist strategy to spread chaos in America is to “occupy Wall Street”, an ongoing operation to protest against bankers and other symbols of America’s corporate financial power. Al Qaeda has successfully recruited Americans and American born Al Qaeda members are calling on recruits who were also born in the U.S. to attack their fellow Americans with automatic weapons. The successful attacks that killed 164 residents of Mumbai and wounded 300 with AK-47s and hand grenades have become a model for future jihad. One terrorist, Adam Gadahn, released an Al Qaeda video in which he stated that automatic weapons can be easily obtained at gun shows.

This misconception- the widespread belief that gun shows offer highly restricted full auto firearms for sale (illegal for most people to even possess)- has been repeated many times in the news media. I am a member of the Washington Arms Collectors and will attest that there are no machine guns for sale at WAC gun shows. WAC regulates its gun shows much more strictly than the BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, FIREARMS & EXPLOSIVES regulates its operations. (more…)

Terms like homophobia have come to be the accepted nomenclature to describe anyone that opposes a political agenda that is advocated by the mavens of our American media-political complex. Control of the language ensures cultural dominance. For example, opposing government entitlement programs translates into hate for minorities. And many Americans are now convinced that actually enforcing immigration laws indicates fear of people that don’t speak English.

According to my sources, the Yiddish term “maven” became common in political parlance during the 1980s when William Safire, the Conservative mantelpiece at the New York Times, began describing himself as “the language maven“. A maven is someone who has a disproportionate influence on other members of his or her network. (more…)

Federal Way residents are encouraged to get Community Emergency Response Training, also known as CERT.

When I attended a few years back, I was surprised to learn that South King Fire and Rescue has a policy of not responding to emergencies where there is an imminent threat of violence. That makes sense because most firefighters and EMTs are not trained to deal with violence. (more…)
