One of our primary objectives is to design our ATG drills to be relevant to church safety teams. Rustin Rathbun will invite speakers and experts in various aspects of church safety to discuss issues like how to deescalate a situation, liability issues for safety teams and nonlethal use of force. The goal is to involve a number of different organizations.
All the churches to whom we have talked seem to favor creating opportunities for church safety teams to participate in Active Shooter Protocol drills and other training with law enforcement agencies. Some churches in the Spokane Valley already work with the Sheriff’s Department. All the churches ought to be participating that wish to do so.
The function of the ATG, an all volunteer, nonprofit public service group incorporated in Idaho, will be to coordinate a public commitment to being prepared for emergencies and to do so without public expense by utilizing volunteers and resources generated through membership and the nominal fees for many of our events. We are a nonprofit, all volunteer corporation. All our volunteers and venues are now insured for liability during live-fire shoots.
We invite anyone interested in our group to attend, ask questions and participate in the discussions about upcoming programs and events. The Action Training Group has been presenting shooting events at Fernan Rod and Gun Club near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho since June, 2016.
We will soon be shooting at the Fernan Rod & Gun Club again. The ATG has members that are glad to schedule groups of people for Action Shooting events at Fernan when the weather holds out! We shoot almost every Friday near Coeur d’Alene.
We are busy recruiting new members. A membership is $39.00 after January 1st. Sign up at http://www.actiontraininggroup.org/. Membership will normally cut the price for each live-fire shooting event by $10.00 or more.
The following live-fire Action Shooting events are scheduled for Fernan Rod and Gun Club on the third Thursday of every month:
March 23, Bays 6 & 7
April 20, Bays 1 & 2
May 18, Bays 6 & 7
June 15, Bays 1 & 2
July 20, Bays 6 & 7
Aug 17, Bays 6 & 7
Sept 21, Bays 1 & 2
Oct 19, Bays 6 & 7
Nov 16, Bays 6 & 7.
Note: LIVE-FIRE events are the 3rd Thursday of every month. All our volunteers and venues are now insured. We will providing information about our free NEW SHOOTER 101 SEMINARS this Friday night at Cabela’s.
This is a wonderful opportunity for new shooters, experienced shooters and church groups to get advanced shoot-on-the-move experience, have fun and volunteer for a ministry that will bless the Body of Christ in Spokane and North Idaho. We need ladies and younger shooters, too! Please contact me with any questions. Our website has instructions about what to expect and how to prepare for our live-fire range events. We are encouraging members of Church Safety Teams to get involved and get the word out. Please note the video at the link below which is on the same page as the detailed information about what to expect at the events. We expect to have very simple COURSES OF FIRE (COF). But we can easily provide match level COFs for shooters that want the challenge of IDPA-style shooting. Bring your tactical rifles and a few hundred rounds of suitable ammunition if you so desire. No rifle rounds on steel (paper only) and no armor piercing or ammunition with steel penetrators, including green tipped stuff. If you are not sure, then ask!
We incorporated on 2016 as an Idaho nonprofit. You can view the By-Laws at http://www.actiontraininggroup.org/. We also have posted our proposed Range Rules posted and will be finalizing these after we complete a final edit.
We also have a PayPal function that allows you to join through our website and make contributions. We invite interested individuals and groups to attend our business meeting scheduled every month for the second Friday of the month.
Please go to the Calendar of Events at the website to confirm the date place and time of meetings. We meet at Sportsman’s Warehouse in the back of the Spokane store just North of Division and Francis.
REALITY BASED TRAINING. Our objective for the next several months will be to focus on new shooters and developing Reality Based events that will be utilized by members of church security teams to train their teams.
We are developing plans for force on force scenarios, including scenarios for members of church security teams. Such scenarios should include foreseeable church emergencies- low light, crowded rooms, hostile shooters stationed at exits, etc.
The ADTA- which I helped start in Federal Way- has had a great deal of success with New Shooter Clinics.
Reality Based Training is beyond what is available to most gun owners.
The shoot-on-the-move courses of fire develop many of the skills and challenges featured in various competition shooting matches like IDPA and USPSA shooting. These courses of fire are not reality based but develop important gun handling skills. You have to be able to ice skate before you play ice hockey!
We invite interested groups and individuals to contact us and consider serving on one of our volunteer planning committees.
The ATG is a ministry to the Body of Christ for many of us. It is profitable for the Kingdom to create cost-effective drills designed specifically for each Safety Team or individual. Even if we don’t get an encouraging response from the churches, we need to sound the right warning note.
There is an almost prophetic element of sounding the alarm without being alarmist. The ATG is tuned to sound the right note and stay the course- like the Watchmen in Ezekiel’s time:
Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
Ezekiel 33:2-6; King James Version (KJV)
Respect for law enforcement, gun safety and preparedness are just some of the values fostered by the numerous activities presently under discussion.
