My brother writes:
I have read the Bible. It’s been a while. But most of the lessons in the Bible are parables, meant to give guidance, and lay down the laws we should all live by.
And there is a wealth of truly great lessons there, written by very enlightened men. They didn’t have organized politics then. But times have changed. We MUST be tolerant of other religions, and learn from our mistakes. The Bible was written by men, and Man is flawed. They didn’t have semi-automatic weapons, and Atomic bombs, space travel and computers then. Again, this is 2007. We can not go around acting like barbarians.
I don’t believe the Bible suggests “an eye for an eye” justice. You shoot me, I’ll shoot you. Vengeance killing is what the warlords in the Middle East are doing, and that is so backwards it’s sick.
I still advocate peaceful solutions. Take the guns away from the dangerous elements. Some regular citizens may still be trusted to carry, but there MUST be rigorous standards set to qualify. Then these violent situations would not occur so often.
The terrorists want you to be sick! Many of us were raised by our mothers and other women. We have forgotten what it means to have conflict on our own soil- conflict with a determined enemy. Do you think that because the “Middle Eastern warlords” make you sick, they will be discouraged in their plans to torture, rape and murder your children?
Comments like the comment above from my brother demonstrate why our enemies think the West is ripe for subjection to an Islamic regime. The more we talk like sheep, the more they are led to believe that we are effeminate and lack the stomach to fight their kind of war. That is what the Japanese thought in the beginning of WW II. Gird up your loins, brother.
If Barack Obama sets the standards you are suggesting, I am predicting he may regulate the means of self-defense right out of existence!
Go back and see what the Bible actually teaches. Not an eye for eye (at least not for civilians) but some people (apparently our president is one of them) teach that the U.S. is the source of all evil for people of color; the jihadists are just reacting to U.S. injustice and we got what we had coming on September 11, 2001, according to the Rev. Wright, Sen. Obama’s former pastor (the president’s mentor for over 20 years). See article herein.
